Choose your own adventure…
Discover the clean fresh air of West Gippsland's high country by 4WD or horse safari. Explore the many walking tracks and rail trails or head off on a bicycle. Try your luck fossicking for gold in our streams and mountains, or take a trip underground in the Walhalla Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine. The activities are endless.
Canoeists will enjoy the challenge of the Thomson River Canoe Trail or a peaceful paddle up the Macalister River. Mt Baw Baw is great for downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding or simply a fun-filled day in the snow. Mt St Gwinear also offers a quieter skiing alternative. Return in summer for a walk amongst the wildflowers.
Why not try your hand at fishing? Spend quality time with family and friends on one of our inland water areas such as the Blue Rock Dam or Lake Narracan. Enjoy the regions beauty and solitude while fly fishing for wild trout in a high country mountain stream such as the upper reaches of the Latrobe or Thomson Rivers.
Love golf? Starting just over an hour east of Melbourne, you will find many picturesque, challenging and uncrowded golf courses just waiting to make you welcome. The choice of courses and the country hospitality make us the perfect location for a golfing holiday. Natural bushland settings are a feature of the Gippsland courses. Access is easy with many courses only minutes from the Princes Freeway, central to quality restaurants, wineries, beautiful National Parks, beaches and high country.
If ever there was a perfect location for cycling, its West Gippsland. In 2007 the 550-kilometre Great Victorian Bike Ride headed away from Melbourne for the first time in its 24-year history, going through Gippsland and demonstrating our suitability for both serious and recreational riders.
The spectacular scenery and huge lengths of marked trails makes West Gippsland a hiking and bush walking paradise. The development of the Great Walhalla Alpine trail (40km) stretching from the Baw Baw Plateau to Walhalla Historic Township is an example of a newly developed challenge to push your limits.
Try paint balling to really get the adrenalin pumping, or a ghost tour in Walhalla Historic Township.
Abseil, kayak, white water raft, swim in the mountain rivers, camp, visit the local pubs and really let go.
