Mother Nature Has Answered the Call
18cms of snow has fallen overnight, a much needed snowfall. Temperatures were down to minus 3 degrees, taking the snow depth to 24cms. Wild and woolly weather hit the resort at approx 4pm yesterday with winds reaching 45 kilometres and large snowflakes falling from the skies like it’s heaven sent. "The snowflakes are getting fatter and heavier, and the mountain is looking all white and beautiful again" says Leona Turra, Mount Baw Baw CEO.The Bureau says snow will continue to fall well into the rest of today.
"I took a short walk through the village this morning and I'm now covered in snow, and you can't wipe the smile off my face" Ms Turra says. "First tracks are being made, fresh Snowmen are popping up everywhere. The road crew has worked very hard to clear the road to ensure easy access to the mountain". The little mountain with big value certainly is a hive of activity and enthusiasm this morning.
Mount Baw Baw CEO says "let's hope the snow fairy keeps smiling on us - we are very thankful!" Visitation to Mount Baw Baw Resort over the school holiday period was exceptional with over 7000 visitor days in the last week. "We managed to have just enough snow over the school holiday and to keep three lifts turning and the children smiling"
"The warmer weather in the last week didn't make perfect skiing conditions, however a sufficient amount of snow remained so that everyone had a good time". People are being encouraged to head to the snow this weekend. If you've never been to the snow before go to: www.mountbawbaw.com.au for 'first timer information' and book into a ski school lesson to master your snowboarding/skiing skills.
